From April to June, the first quarter of fiscal year 2019-2020, Vodafone Portugal maintained its good service revenue momentum, principally driven by strong double-digit fixed line growth.

Service Revenue reached 238.3 million euros, which represents a growth of 3.2% considering the same period last year (Q4: 2.1%). Total revenue reached 261.4 million euros (+3.3 YoY).

Regarding mobile business, during Q1 Vodafone Portugal remained stable under a very competitive environment, reaching 4.7 million mobile customers (+3.2% YoY), of which 2.2 million are 4G customers (+19.9%YoY). In the same period, smartphone penetration in the active customer base reached 78.5% (+3.8ppYoY)

Fixed business continues to register a double-digit growth, with the customer base increasing 10.2% YoY, reaching 738.2 thousand, of which 628 thousand are TV customers (11.1%YoY).

“The good performance achieved in Q1 is the result of our customer obsessed strategy and total focus in delivering the best communication experience in Portugal. We are effectively expanding our footprint, covering 3.2 million homes and businesses with the best network in the country. Pursuing our commitment in reaching everyone, regardless where they live, we have recently signed a memorandum of understanding with dstelecom, in order to increase our fiber coverage and reach 5.3 million houses with FTTH”, says Mário Vaz, CEO of Vodafone Portugal.

Several initiatives took place in Q1, such as the launch of a new consumer IoT device - V-Multi Tracker: a high-range locator that allows users to track, in real time, the route of their most important everyday objects through the app installed on the smartphone.

Also in the business segment, Vodafone Portugal held an AI conference with some of the most important speakers in the world. The aim was to discuss the impact of AI in society, addressing issues such as ethics and the new man-machine dynamic, impact on jobs and on businesses, among many others.

Always at the forefront of innovation, Vodafone Portugal continued to invest in making 5G closer to reality. Although still waiting for spectrum auction, Vodafone Portugal has been preparing its network and developing real 5G use cases. A very important milestone was achieved in May, when Vodafone Portugal and Vodafone Spain held the first worldwide roaming session in 5G. The trial showed an e-gamer crossing the border while playing on his smartphone in real time, without having any kind of interruption in between countries.
